Golf /Vento Gti & Vr6
Lower Front Sub Frame Brace
Now taking orders
.Development complete
As some of the Vr6 owners club members are aware ,
there seems to be a problem finding a lower sub frame
strutt brace that actually fits the Vr6
This we found out to our cost AFTER purchacing two,
one for the golf Gti and one for the Vento Vr6 ,
both featured on the BSCS playtime page.
( But to their credit the retailer gave us a refund, being unaware of the problem )
There are some that , after a few mods, a bit of bending and
opening out holes , then removing bits with a grinder,
will eventually go on to the std Golf Gti,
But when it comes to the Vr6,
they foul the gearbox/diff ... because its bigger.
Comment :- we still think that on the 8v Gti
it still hits occationally. even after
about an hour messing about with it
(but it has got a f***ed engine mount )
I asked if it was worth the effort ,as being
a bit sceptical I didnt think it would improve
the handling by any significant amount,
I was taken for a ride after fitting the brase ,
RESULT
I am making them forthe Vr6
I was ammazed at the difference it makes
I have also spoken to members of the VR6 Ownerds club.
Every one says that they think the top brase does VERY LITTLE
in comparison to what the lower one does
Some pictures showing the problem

diff housing a tad too close....
and the engine is still raised to get o/s wishbone bolt out

clearance here is essential !

and the hole lines up with the edge of the subframe
So , ...... we have now made one that
FITS, no mods, no hassle , straight on
and here are some pictures of its development,
through from a mockup using bits of scrap found
laying about , up to the first propper model.

daylight between brace and gearbox
just takes a little thought and some old engineering skills
this has been our biggest problem
finding a left and right handed tap and die set
to make the preload adjuster thingy

Note ; the end bracket actually is at the correct angle
to fit the subframe

AND
. THE FINAL PRODUCT BOLTED UP
TO OUR SPARE SUBFRAME

This pre-production sample has been made in lightweight steel tube which we feel will give the best strength to weight ratio and we intend to do a production run in the very near future
They will ALL be custom made and assembled using the above subframe as a jig .
There is a possibility that they could be made in alternative materials such as aluminium or stainless steel at some future date, but we will have to investigate the production problems and they will definatly be considerably more expensive to produce.
and one offered up to the car
showing that it clears safely

In place AND CLEARING diff housing
(If you have any doughts about clearance,
eg, your car isnt standard, then please measure
the clearance reqd using the very BOTTOM of the subframe
as a referance , we can then check and if necessary, make
adjustments to the bends as we weld the parts together.)
To be 100% sure, why not give me a call and pay us a visit
then I can make one specific to your car, while you wait .
all parts are ready for assembly and final welding
We have found, in a 2005 catalogue, in steel ,
from £55.99
supposedly to fit All models of golf (we wonder)
I now have my proto type finished and can produce others to order ...
to despatch in aprox 2_3 days
Enquiries can be made to me (the old man , Eddie) contact details , eddiescars17@hotmail.co.uk
mail@braintreesmallcarshop.co.uk
phone 07803368303
or through Brett @the Vr6 owners club web site or

We will have a good idea of prices once we have
made our first batch but bear in mind
others may be cheaper , but will They fit
We GUARANTEE that ours WILL
and will not foul the geargox
For anyone who wants advice etc
Fitting instructions can be emailed by return
Update:- under way and can mfg
to despatch in 2/3 days max
probably be able to do them for
between £50.00 & £60.00
including the longer bolts to
accomodate the exthe thickness
of the brackets
and remember they will fit.
( Uk Post and packing is £8.50 )
Flash paint is optional, they can be any colours
that I have available,or in the gun ,
if you want something specific then you will have to talk to me , or supply the paint.
Production example completed

For the observant ones who may spot
the "brackets on the end are not square,
this is by design , so as to fit properly on
to the subframe profile
(unlike some we have seen /tried)
Additional notes
Comments from chatting to the lads at the final VW
showof the year,
are that as they go out of sight, it is that it is more
important that they work, than how they look,
So we keep the preload adjuster, this I think is essential as it would not be possible to fit correctly due to the angles, and needs to be "expanded" once fitted in place.
I will do production run in steel as per prototype ,
and paint, silver or black
I should be able to price them in a week or so
when I have made 10.
We may also be making the top brace soon ,
(one that when you drill through you do not hit the lip in the strengthening plate on the mount below .............
(making that weaker ??? durrrrr again )
Got a whole (BENT) car cluttering up my
workshed now... one day it will be dismantled
I am told , dont know when ....
( opps sorry Brett ) anyone want any bits?,
If so ask me or Brett thru vr6 owners club
or phone our normal number
& Next one will be Better ...
onward and upward
