On this page I have posted some OLD photos that I took in the days when one shot a FILM , took it to Boots, waited a week, handed over the equivalent of about £15 and got the 24 pictures , you paid even if half of them didnt even come out....
anyway, the first set of pictures were of an old E Type jag that
I did in my ' own spare time' while I was Foreman of a bodyshop.
The car belonged to a 'coach trimmer' from Brentwood, and I am told, went on to win in several shows although I never actually saw it completed.

New Door Skins, Inner & outter Sills, Front and rear floor pans
New rear Valance and wheel arches ( fitted over several months.)
the whole project from start to finish , was in the w/shop for over a year

The bonnet required quite a bit of attention to various little age marks/dents etc , and the front valance (under the bumper, ) was almost completly rebuilt.
If I were to do this today I would of obviously take 'hundreds' of picts, but back then, no internet, no digital anything , no mobiles etc, there wasnt really a point, and even photocopy cost a small fortune anyway.

In the Paint oven , just 'cooked

As good as, if not better than the day it came out of Jaguar
on the same roll of film , I also took pictures of a nice gold Roller which I did the prep and paint in the course of my day job . ... note some of the cars in the background, including the Jensen

Car Salvage
Ever thought about buying a 'Light damaged Salvage car
, ie one the insurers have decided , for economic reasons, not to repair????
YOU HAVE ....... TALK TO ME !!!
Ok lets look at the pros and cons.
! 1
They are A LOT CHEAPER
2
They can be repaired with ' salvaged/used, genuine ' or 'pattern parts'
which are far cheaper than the Dealer parts Quoted on the insurance estimate.
And many parts can be repaired, but the bodyshops quote the much more
expensive option of replacing even if they dont need to
3
The cars, very probably would have been repaired if the same accident had
happened when the car was a couple of years newer (and worth a bit more)
4
The insurers costs mount up very quickly,
storage @ £25+ a night minimum , Hire car @ ?? £100 a week -----
4 weeks and its well over £1000...
without any legal fees... @ ? £ hundreds
and they havent started to pay for the repair......
or
... they can decide not to repair, send out a cheque to the owner, that stops costs,
and then reclaim some back from the sale of the 'salvage'
5
Providing there is no major deformation of chassis, and any saftey crital parts
effected can be safely replaced, repairs can be completed and the car put back to its
original condition by a competent repairer, often using these jobs as 'fill in' work
at much lower labour rates than the insurers plush, high profile workshops.
6
~ End result is usually a very nice car, (well you wouldnt bother anyway if the car
wasnt nice before the accident)... at a good saving allowing you to have a newer ,
lower mileage car than you would normally afford......
.(a very low mileage car normally about Trade money of an average mileage one,
or average mileage car at price of one 2 or 3 years older )
and you dont have to tell anyone how you managed to afford it if you dont want to.
